He is the brother of H. H. Liebhafsky, and I believe they both were at  
Texas-Austin, when that department had a strong institutionalist  
(American-style, as in Veblen-Commons tradition) flavor. They both  
published often in the Journal of Economic Issues.  They also both were  
very involved in developing and promoting the pragmatist (Dewey-Peirce  
tradition) philosophical base for institutionalist economics.  There is  
a very good oral tradition about their teaching and supervising of  
students.
