CALL FOR NOMINATIONS: CSIH LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

All members of the Canadian Society for International Health are invited
to submit one or more nominations for the CSIH 2003 Lifetime Achievement
Award. The purpose of this award is to publicly recognize a member of
the Society who has made a substantial contribution to the field of
international health throughout their career. This Award will be
presented to the recipient at the Society’s annual Canadian Conference
on International Health (CCIH) to be held October 26-29, 2003. Award
recipients must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant; a member of
CSIH; and involved in international health for at least 15 years.  For

SAMPLE ADVOCACY LETTER ON GLOBALIZATION, TRADE AND HEALTH FOR MEMBERS TO
SEND TO MPS

Dr. Ronald Labonte, CSIH Board Member, has made available a sample
letter and a briefing paper on "Globalization, Trade and Health" that he
has prepared on behalf of the International Union for Health Promotion
and Education (IUHPE) to be posted on the CSIH website. Members are
invited to read the paper and use the letter as a sample, making changes
where appropriate, in order to send the letter to their MPs before the
World Trade Organization's 5th Ministerial Meeting in Cancun, Mexico, in
September 2003. Letters should be copied to the Canadian Council for
International Cooperation (http://www.ccic.ca/) as they are keeping a

HELP SOUGHT IN IDENTIFYING DEVELOPING COUNTRY PARTICIPANTS FOR THE 34th
WORLD CONFERENCE ON LUNG HEALTH

StopTB is preparing an application for funding to CIDA's Conference
Secretariat for developing country participants to attend the 34th
IUATLD World Conference on Lung Health in Paris, France October 29 -
November 2, 2003.  If you can provide any assistance in identifying
professionals from developing countries who may benefit from assistance
to attend this meeting, contact:

JOB OPPORTUNITY: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, GEMS OF HOPE

Founded in 1982, Gems of Hope (GOH) is a registered non-profit,
charitable international development organization based in Toronto.
Working with local partners and with a focus on women, Gems of Hope
promotes the well-being and self-sufficiency of families and communities
in the developing world by supporting programs in micro-enterprise,
health and education. Countries where Gems of Hope programs are
currently in operation include: Bangladesh, Bolivia, Brazil and Peru.
GOH is seeking an Executive Director who has the passion, commitment and
energy to lead the grassroots organization into its next stage of
growth. The Executive Director will be required to further develop and
implement GOH's mandate and vision; manage its programs and operations;
and play a critical role in expanding and enhancing its resource
