Doug was also a member of the AAO.  I had the pleasure of meeting him last January.  I sensed in him a real deep concern regarding the fate of archival records in Perth and surrounding area.  We were working on a plan to establish an archival program for records of the Town of Perth.  Indeed, I have a letter from him on my desk reporting recent progress.  I am saddened to learn of his passing.  The archival and museum community have lost a true supporter and ally.

Subject:        Obituary - Doug McNichol

The Ontario Museum Association is saddened to learn of the untimely 
passing away of fellow colleaque Doug McNichol. Doug has been the 
Curator of the Perth Museum for the past 13 years. After graduating in 
1983 from the Museum Technology Course at Algonquin College, Doug worked 
at the Haliburton Highlands Museum. In 1985 Doug became Curator of the 
Perth Museum. He has been very involved in the local museum community as 
well as being Treasurer of the Lanark County Museums Association and a 
member of the Ottawa Regional Museums Group. Doug dedicated his life to 
the museum community and was the backbone of the Perth Museum. He will 
be missed by the many who relied on him for support and knowledge. Doug 
was extremely proud of the Award of Excellence that was bestowed upon 
the Perth Museum. Doug is survived by his mother and two brothers.
