Bursary Notice

In memory of the late Lil Hewton, a founding member of the Museum of Mental
Health Services (Toronto) Inc., the Board of Directors has decided to fund
two annual bursaries in her name. They are designed to provide financial
assistance to students/scholars who propose to undertake archival research
on some aspect of the history of mental health services and/or psychiatry in
Canada.

The Board may approve up to two bursaries per year to a maximum of $2,500
(Cdn) each. Officers and Board members of the Museum Corporation are not
eligible.

Details of the Bursary:

Suitably qualified candidates with clearly focused archival/research
interests in the specified field, who need not necessarily be affiliated
with a university or other educational institution, may apply. No
individual will be allowed to apply for more than one bursary at any time.
Only in exceptional circumstances will bursaries be available for a second
year.

Application Procedure:

There is no application form. Applicants should send a covering letter and
description of their project (not more than 250 words) and a provisional
budget to the Secretary-Treasurer. Application will be reviewed by a
committee of the Board. Its recommendations will be subject to the approval
at the ensuing Board meeting. The successful applicants will be notified in
writing before the year's end.

Taking up a Bursary:

Successful candidates are expected to take up their award commencing January
1st of the following year. All funds will be disbursed by the
Secretary-Treasurer upon submission of receipts and invoices. Advances may
be arranged with the approval of the Secretary-Treasurer. Funds remaining
in the bursary at the end of the calendar year will revert to the Museum
Corporation. Bursary holders will be required to acknowledge the support of
the Museum of Mental Health Services (Toronto) Inc. in subsequent
presentations and publications.

Centre for Addiction and Mental Health:

The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) was created in 1998
through the successful merger of the Addiction Research Foundation, the
Clarke Institute of Psychiatry, the Donwood Institute and the Queen Street
Mental Health Centre. The Centre is a teaching hospital fully affiliated
with the University of Toronto and is a World Health Organization Centre of
Excellence. It is the largest mental health and addictions facility in
Canada. For additional background information on CAMH: http://www.camh.net
