CALL FOR PAPERS - South Central Modern Language Association (SCMLA) 2018 Conference

SAN ANTONIO, TX * OCTOBER 11 - 14, 2018
Theme: Crossroads of Cultures

Mark Twain's career as a writer and speaker embodies the conference's theme of "Crossroads of Cultures." As a travel writer and lecturer, he described the cultures that were different from the American and European cultures and influences. He introduced the Easterners to the frontier of America; he introduced Americans to the world outside of their small communities; he also introduced the rest of the world to the American experiences, culture and language. Through his writing and lectures, Mark Twain translated the American cultural experience to the world, thus showing what it was to be an American to our multi-cultural world. This panel encourages papers on the various aspects of his career as a writer, lecturer, and cultural critic.
