As Cindy and Kerry both point out, the dog is now Flash after being Hash for decades.. It was Ben Griffin of the MTP&P who worked this out and told me about it when I visited there -- I immediately wired Hartford, and you can imagine the consternation.
Just to fill in one more blank: The year was 1885.

It's Hartford for sure, on the ombra. I know that the dog's name was Flash
(although for many years thought to be "Hash" due to Susy's illegible
handwriting), but being a cat person, I have no idea what breed.
