----------------- HES POSTING -----------------
In the XIXth century, of course, Walras was known to economists in the
English speaking world. However, his own relationship with British
economists began badly and deteriorated in the process of correspondence
with A. Marshall, W. S. Jevons, F. Y. Edgeworth. They discussed the
priority in the investigation of marginal utility, the equation of
exchange, etc. None of the three British economists paid attention to
Walrasian general equilibrium theory which was new to them. See _Willam
Jaffe's Essay on Walras_ (1983), edited by D. A. Walker, esp. pp. 4-5 and
25-27.
