Robert B. Ekelund and Robert F. Hebert, _The Secret Origins of 
Microeconomics: Dupuit and the Engineers_ (Chicago: University of Chicago 
Press, 1999). 
 
It is an excellent and readable book that has a lot to say about 
centralized educational systems, engineering and economics.
