I must beg the indulgence of the experts on this list when I ask
for the answers to a few questions that surely must be known to everyone
but myself.
1. I have a broken set of the Harper & Brothers, Author’s National
Edition of the Writings of Mark Twain, and I am having some trouble
fitting in the missing volumes. Could someone kindly list all 25
volumes of this set for me?
2. Is there some reason that some of these books are placed in the set
out of the order that Twain wrote them?
3. My red cover set shows a good variety of copyright dates for each
volume. Is there any way to tell the year of publication of this set?
Thank you for your help. At age 56, I am just beginning to read
the complete works of Mark Twain. Innocents Abroad, now completed, has
not dulled my appetite for this author. It’s a shame that most
Americans only know a few of these works by title alone. I judge that
Twain has been mostly wasted on children by adults who should know
better.
David
