Mark Twain and the Marketplace

The Mark Twain Circle is sponsoring a panel on Mark Twain and the
Marketplace for the 2003 M.L.A. conference. Panelists may reflect upon any
aspect of Twain's history with and responses to the marketplace: his
turbulent career as an investor, his critique of wealth and capitalism, his
own identity which became both commodity and capital, and the extent to
which Mark Twain's life and work continue to have literal and figurative
currency. Panelists may also wish to consider the extent to which economic
agendas or interests inform Twain's creative process and/or the content of
his work. Please submit a brief abstract with a paper title to Ann M. Ryan,
Le Moyne College at [log in to unmask] by March 31, 2003.
