The October issue of AMERICAN HERITAGE contains a lengthy article on the
"Mountain Meadow massacree" of Mormons against settlers crossing their lands
in the 1840s. The article mentions Twain's discussion of the incident in
ROUGHING IT, noting that his passages about it were later deleted in a
"politically correct" atmosphere of absolving Mormons of the crime.
