According to the New York Times television section of May 2, 1960 --
CBS and Playhouse 90 presented a program titled "The Shape of
the River." The program was described:

"Franchot Tone as Mark Twain in Horton Foote's drama about a
critical period in the author's life. "The Shape of the River"
with Leif Erickson, Katharine Bard, Shirley Knight in supporting
roles."

According to one correspondent who remembers viewing this program,
it dealt in part with the death of Jean.

Has this screenplay been published in any collections of Horton Foote's
works? Is there any correlation between the Horton Foote script and
the recently rereleased 1979 PBS production of "Mark Twain: Beneath the
Laughter."?

Thanks,
Barb
