We know Sam Clemens worked as a printer, sometimes news reporter, as was Mark Twain in his early years.
There is one clue that he was a newspaper reader, when he made an 1865 notation about Bob Howland in his journal the day Howland's name appeared in the Sacramento Daily Union. And there is the claim that he carved up his desktop cutting articles from exchanges in Virginia City.
Does anyone know if he was a regular newspaper reader, especially before he joined the Enterprise staff?
