Earlier this year I posted information about an upcoming series by the CBC -
the Antiques Road Show in Canada. Here is an update on this series which
has just launched in Saint John NB this week.

You may have been wondering what has happened regarding the Anitques
Roadshow in Canada. We have just confirmed that the Department of Canadian
Heritage withdrew from this project and that the CBC is going it alone.
That means that any attempt to take emphasis off the appraisal value of the
items that people bring in and onto more curatorial or conservation issues
is gone. The first show is today, May 5, in Saint John, NB with other
shows throughout the month in Halifax, Gatineau (CMC), Toronto, Saskatoon,
Calgary, and Vancouver. You can visit the show's website for more detailed
information and for free tickets at www.canadianantiquesroadshow.com.

You will notice that the site contains basic "preventive conservation"
advice on care for antiques in the following categories: ceramics,
furniture, silver, and stuffed toys/dolls. The advice gives frequent
references to the need for conservators. The site asks for ideas for other
things that would be appropriate for the site. You may be interested in
contributing information on the care of other materials.

The CCI is still attempting to get a booth at venues that have space for
this, although this would not be on offical part of the show. The CAC
encourages its members to find creative ways to capitalize on the interest
in antiques and collectibles that this show should generate in the cities
where tapings occur.
