FUNDACION URRUTIA ELEJALDE
SECOND SUMMER SCHOOL
'ECONOMICS AT THE TURN OF THE MILLENNIUM:
PONDERING PROGRESS'
PALACIO DE MIRAMAR, SAN SEBASTIAN, SPAIN
22-28 JULY, 1999
I. THE EVENT.
The Seminar of Economic Methodology at the Universidad Autonoma de
Madrid, on behalf of the Fundacion Urrutia Elejalde, and in cooperation
with the Universidad del Pais Vasco, is going to organise from July 22nd
to 28th, 1999, in San Sebastian (Spain), the Second Urrutia Elejalde
Summer School on Economics and Philosophy, under the title 'Economics at
the Turn of the Millenium: Pondering Progress'.
The Summer School is mainly intended for graduate students and young Ph.D.
researchers on the foundations of economic analysis and on the philosophy
and methodology of economics. The first Summer School took place in
Venice (Italy) in August 1998, organised by Salvador Barbera. In this new
edition, the general purpose of the School will be to ascertain the degree
in which some basic fields of research in economics have experienced
progress during the last two decades.
Its aim is to promote reflection and discussion about fundamental topics,
as well as personal contacts between first rate professors and young
researchers. Each session is planned to include two lectures about a key
issue in modern economics. One of the lectures will be delivered by an
economist, and the other by an economic methodologist, followed by a
general discussion among all the attendants. Space will be made available
for brief communications by other participants.
The following topics will be studied: General Equilibrium, Social Choice
and Strategy-Proofness, Experimental Economics, Computational Economics
and New Institutionalism and Austrian Economics.
