The History of Economics Society invites nominations (including self-nominations) for its
Best Article award for 2004. Deadline for nominations is January 17, 2005.

Please send a copy of the article that you wish to nominate to the chair of the Best
Article committee at the address at the end of this posting, along with a brief note
explaining your reasons.

For your guidance, here is a statement of the criteria used by previous best
article committees:

"We are looking for a paper that makes an original contribution to discourse in the
history of economic thought. Other desirable characteristics depend in part on the topic
or approach to the history of economic thought represented by the paper, but may include:
- potential relevance to a wide range of researchers or more than one
research area in the history of economic thought
- clear and bold thesis
- significant comparisons
- attention to economic, social, and cultural context
- innovative research methods using materials beyond the classical
texts, including correspondence and archival material
- engaging style"

The HES Best article committee consists of Perry Mehrling (chair, Barnard College,
Columbia University), Tony Aspromourgos (Univ. of Sydney), Spencer Banzhaf (Resources for
the Future), Vincent Barnett (University of Birmingham), Alain Marciano (University of
Reims) and Leon Montes (Universidad Adolfo Ibanez)
