BRUCE SEELY (History Dept, Michigan Tech)
seeks to connect with economists, especially those who study the history
of economists' role in economic policy-making. His current project is a
book on U.S. American Transportation Policy; his previous publication is
history of engineering and business history.
This blurb is what I (Paul Wendt, seminar coordinator) distributed as a
notice for the last Kress Seminar of the spring, 16 May, where Bruce
presented a paper and expressed interest in finding others with similar
interests.
BRUCE SEELY (History, Michigan Tech)
Expertise and Policy: the Role of Economists
This year Bruce is visiting the Dibner Institute for History of
Science and Technology at MIT, where he recently presented part of
this project, "Experts, Technology, and American Transportation
Policies." His experts include several economists and he tells an
important part of the story of the development of the American
regulatory state --and the economics profession.
In the presentation, the economists discussed were W.Ripley, E.Johnson,
H.Moulton, and ?.Cunningham.
