What was the legal status of Clemens' pseudonym in his
day? Was "Mark Twain" considered a legal identity for
SLC? Were there any laws which would have prevented
some usurper from appropriating the "Mark Twain"
moniker for his own works?

Did Clemens sign any contracts or other legal documents
with his pen-name, and if so, were they still binding?
