Dear list members

A bit of Xmas hilarity for you.

I am trying to figure out if the PolyMeal
was indeed a "spoof" as the Brits say. This
kind of thing has caught me out
several times when reading BMJ Xmas issues. One
year there was a paper on social inequality in
mortality of dogs (I kid you not) by George
Davey Smith. I know George, and thought it was a
brilliant take-off of some of the work we had
done together in the past. Even one of the names
of co-authors sounded like a clever pun, something
like Anna Husky PhD (no offence to this person, and
that is nothing like their actual name). To my
mortification, it turned out to be a real paper.
Likewise, for many years I believed that Ronnie
Frankenberg, a much honoured figure in UK medical
sociology and anthropology, was pulling me leg
about a book called 'Love and Max Weber'. This also
turned out to be a real book.

So watch out
