Poverty WAS mentioned in last night's BBC news (broadcast here in the
US) about the assistance needed for the tsunami victims -- by Nancy
Birdsall, a global health expert -- who said a similar number to those
killed in the disaster die every few weeks from global health
inequities, from poverty and preventable mortality due to
poverty-related causes, such as lack of clean water and adequate food,
environmental toxins and risks, poorly paid and unsafe work, etc.  I
also agree with the view that we should collaborate around complex
health inequities, not polarize the issues into one causal framework
versus another.
