Greenfield seems to have mistaken flip-flopping with Twain's position
as an avowed mugwump. To be sure, the claim by some critics that a
mugwump has his mug on one side of the fence and his wump on the other
could lead to some confusion. But those who understand nuanced
positions on complex issues have no difficulty distinguishing between a
mugwump and a flip-flopper. The one believes in international
cooperation, the other opposes investigations into misdeeds of those in
his administration.
