Conference: Economic Analysis and Political Economy in the Thought of
F.A. Hayek.
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of F.A. Hayek, the
Association of Historians of the Austrian Economic Tradition (AHTEA)
organizes a conference in Paris from 27-29 May 1999. The conference will
be devoted to the relationship between economic analysis and political
economy in Hayek's thought.
Hayek's work in economics extends over more than half a century, and
covers most of the major fields of the discipline. Some of Hayek's
contributions to economics are purely analytical, others are inspired by
a broader vision that one may characterize as `political economy' in the
18th century sense of the term. The conference intends to examine the
relationships betweeen these two components of Hayek's thought. Can this
link be found in all of Hayek's publications, or is it necessary, for
example, to distinguish between the young Hayek who devoted himself to
economic analysis, and the mature Hayek whose concern it is to unfold
the principles of liberalism? More generally, is Hayek's liberalism
founded on a value judgment that is independant from his investigations
in positive economics, or is his work an attempt to found liberalism on
economic theory? These and related issues will be discussed in their
relationship with the various currents of thought in the Austrian
tradition.
Proposals for papers (500- 1000 words) should be submitted before
November 15th 1998, specifying:
1. the original contribution of the paper, and
2. its relationship to the theme of the conference
Papers that have been accepted by the scientific committee should reach
the organizers no later than March 1st 1999.

Appel a Communications
doivent etre adressees a:
