It is with great sadness that I report the passing of Prof. Haim Barkai over the weekend.

Prof. Barkai passed away at age 81.
He was one of the most influential researchers in the area of the Economics of Israel and
Israel's economic history, and made many contributions in the area of the History of
Economic Thought.
During the 1980s, he was Chair of the Council of Advisors to the Bank of Israel, and also
served as an economic advisor to the Government of Israel.
Educated at the Hebrew University and LSE, he became Chair of the Depratment of Economics
at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and also served as Dean of the Faculty of Social
Science there.
After retirement, he founded the Economics Department at the Israel College of Management,
and was Head of that Department.
He will be missed by all who knew him, as he always had a smile and cheerful word for
all...
