As chair of the committee to nominate the 2005 HES Distinguished  
Fellow, I awaited nominations (which closed December 1)  -- a letter  
or email would have sufficed --from HES members. After all,  
membership in HES is both inexpensive and dignity-enhancing, and  
itself confers immediate "luminary" status.
