The following workshop will be held in Ottawa on Tuesday, 22 November in
the afternoon.

Copyright 2005: What's New? What's Next?
Copyright issues are always in the news, and it's hard to keep track of
the current state of the law, particularly the application of copyright
in the digital environment. The federal government is currently engaged
in an ongoing process of copyright reform, and recent court decisions
have had an impact on the interpretation of the Act. This half-day
course provides an opportunity to learn about the status of the
government's copyright reform initiative, as well as the impact of
recent court decisions affecting fair dealing, photocopying for patrons,
and the transmission of music on the Internet.

Key topics covered include:

        * Government plans for copyright reform
        *   Amendments to the statute
        * Changes due to the elapse of time
        *   Significant case law
        * Short-term priorities for future amendments
