Journal of the History of Economic Thought

Editor Search

The current Editor of the Journal of the History of Economic Thought,
Steven Medema, will be stepping down as of July 2008. The new Editor is
expected to take office on July 1st 2008, with responsibility for issues
from March 2009 onward. There is currently a good backlog of accepted papers.

The History of Economics Society has established a search committee to
recommend a new Editor (or Editorial Team) to the Executive Committee at
the Annual Meeting in June 2007. The Committee is Malcolm Rutherford
(Chair), Sandra Peart, and Bob Dimand.

The Search Committee invites inquiries and expressions of interest from
individuals or teams concerning the Editorship of the Journal. The
Committee is open to various different arrangements concerning the
Editorship, including a single Editor, an Editor with Assistant Editors, or
two or more joint Editors.

The current arrangements for the publishing of the Journal are under review
and a change of publisher is possible. This may allow for a variety of
different arrangements with respect to the financing of the editorial
office of the Journal. Under the existing arrangements the Editor's own
institution does contribute to the cost of the editorial office and
copy-editing is done by that office.  Other arrangements are possible;
copy-editing is often done by the publisher of academic journals.

The term of the Editor is five years, with the expectation of renewal for
another five year term on the mutual agreement of the Editor(s) and the
Executive Committee. The Editor is a non-voting member of the Executive
Committee of the Society.

At this time the Search Committee encourages inquiries and expressions of
interest even if tentative. Society members are also invited to suggest
names to the Committee. Any names suggested will be contacted.

More formal submissions will be requested from those who are (or become)
seriously interested--including CVs, statement of Editorial philosophy, and
preferred funding arrangements. The deadline for such formal submissions
is March 31st 2007.

Communications should be addressed to Malcolm Rutherford, Department of
