Volunteers Needed for Housing Connections' Board Advisory Council

Background
Housing Connections is a subsidiary of Toronto Community Housing
responsible for maintaining a centralized waiting list for
rent-geared-to-income housing and housing program administration such as
rent supplement and housing allowance. Housing Connections is currently
pursuing new business opportunities.
The Housing Connections Board of Directors is seeking qualified
participants for its Board Advisory Council and wants to ensure that the
Council continues to collectively represent a range of relevant
expertise. This Council provides a broad external stakeholder
perspective to Housing Connections (via the Board of Directors and
General Manager) about the impact of business direction on the user
community. The Council is advisory in mandate and has no decision making
authority. The Council currently has four vacancies; three from the
community sector and one from the private non-profit/co-op housing
sector. Full membership of the Council is important to encourage
feedback and input from all stakeholder sectors.
Housing Connections recognizes that Toronto is made up of many peoples
and cultures and seeks Council members who reflect the diversity of the
community. Prospective Council members should have an understanding of
social housing and social issues or they should be willing to learn.
Knowledge of business would be an asset. Roles and Responsibilities of
Council Members:

· Commit to being a member of the Council and attend pre-scheduled,
quarterly meeting dates
· Advise the Board by providing input on business issues relevant to
Housing Connections
· Declare conflict of interest where appropriate and maintain
confidentiality
· Subcommittee work may be required
· Total time commitment is estimated to be 10 to 20 hours annually
