==================== HES POSTING ====================

        As the "Second British Empire" came into existence, there was
still a British North America, however reduced. More important, however,
there was a consolidating Empire looking out at India. The opportunities
for privilege were so evident that people paid to work for the East India
Company - they made so much moonlighting on the job. But, perhaps that is
not the sort of privilege to which you were referring.
