Dear Professor Waterman,
I've also forgotten the source. But I recently stumbled on what may have
been the original: Paul Sweezy. A. Bergson's 'Socialist Economics', in H.S.
Ellis, A Survey of Contemporary Economics, Vol. 1 (Iriwin/AEA, 1948, pp.
412-48),on p.444 cites Sweezy as writing, in 1935: 'Marxian economics is
essentially the economics of capitalism, while "capitalist" economics is in
a very real sense the economics of socialism' (P.M. Sweezy, 'Economics and
the crisis of capitalism" Economic Forum, Spring 1935, III, p.79).
If you do find the Robinson source, would you let me know?
Best wishes,
John King
