As the German Historical School, the  Old American   
Institutionalists, and  more recent "appreciative theorists" of   
economic growth and development have insisted, people produce   
things using economic systems as indispensable instruments.  
  
To say that the modern economic system produces something is   
to use an historically indispensable, valid, truth-laden trope.
