Susan Harris discussed her book's subject matter here at the Kansas City Public Library last week, and I daresay that most of the SRO audience left with a knowledge and appreciation of America's (and Twain's) role in the Philippines and in the turn-of-the-century gang of imperialists that was new to them.

In case you haven't seen it, this week's _New Yorker_ gives special notice =
to Susan Harris's _God's Arbiters_, on the U.S. role in the Philippines and=
Mark Twain's responses to it--a well deserved recognition!
