The School of Public Health at the University of Alberta is pleased to

Simple solutions the best for pain in the neck


It might just be that the most effective solutions to a pain in the neck
are the simplest. According to a University of Alberta-led task force on
neck pain, the often debilitating ailment's best treatment is still more
closely associated with a loving spouse's neck rub than anything the
advancements of modern medicine have to offer.


 


Cancer care priorities: Fair and equitable resource decisions


If you were diagnosed with cancer today, does where you live impact your
treatment options? If you live in Canada then, yes, it does. Dr. Dev
Menon explains that the federal government determines if cancer
treatments are approved for use in Canada, but each province has its own
cancer board that determines what treatments will be funded. 

 


New director maintains focus on creating injury-free Alberta


When injuries occur in everyday life - a car collision, a slip on the
ice, or a fall from a ladder - many people apply the old adage of
"accidents happen." Don Voaklander says that, "Many people think that
injuries are the result of accidents, which are typically considered to
be unpredictable and unpreventable. This is inaccurate; injuries are
predictable and preventable." 


 


HP students serve dinner, learn life-long lessons


Community involvement is a foundation piece of health promotion.
Recently, the members of the Health Promotion Graduate Students'
Association (HPGSA) gave back to the community by organizing and serving
dinner at the youth recreation centre, Crystal Kids.
