In February this year the New York Times ran an article on a recent
discovery of a Twain manuscript titled "The Great Republic's Peanut Stand"
written in 1898.

The article stated that as far as could be determined, "The Great
Republic's Peanut Stand" has never been mentioned anywhere-- not in the
popular press or the vast academic literature on Twain or by Twain
himself."

In 1941 Cyril Clemens published _Republican Letters_ which contains
a facsimile of a letter dated  December 21, 1899 that Twain wrote to
Mr. Harper.  Twain wrote in part:

"I return the list of articles for the 2 vols.  You will notice that
I have made a couple of small transpositions.  The arrangement as it now
stands seems to me to be good.

I think it may be well to advertise the fact that the "Peanut Stand"
(with original unaffected & unstudied drawings of great merit) and
half of "Xn Science" paper have not been published before."

Question:  Was the illustrated "Peanut Stand" article submitted to
Harper in 1899 the same manuscript referred to in the New York Times as
"The Great Republic's Peanut Stand"?  And which "2 vols." might Twain
have been referring to that he wanted these manuscripts included in?
