U-Michigan Flint puts out "economist trading cards". Therein lies a funny
tale. This past Xmas Dave Barry, the syndicated columnist, mentioned
these cards in his annual column tabulating truly ridiculous gifts. The
column created a boom in demand for the things. Told what he had done
Dave was very amused and said he could see a future where economists are
paid to endorse products just like athletes. He mentioned the clunky
black featureless shoes so many male members of the profession are
partial to. The WSJ reporter who wrote the story up commented: "Air-Tobin
anyone"?
