DIRECTOR, ONTARIO JEWISH ARCHIVES, Toronto
The Ontario Jewish Archives, a department of UJA Federation of Greater Toronto, was established in 1973. The Archives is the repository of the records of the history of Ontario Jewry and the records of UJA Federation. The Archives organizes exhibitions, both online and at various venues throughout the year, is a convener of community gatherings, and runs an ongoing series of public programs, all designed to educate about the importance of preserving and sharing one’s heritage.
UJA Federation of Greater Toronto is searching for a new Director for the Ontario Jewish Archives to further develop the Archives’ collections, programs and reputation and to focus not only on core activities but continue to expand the base of financial support, community engagement, and outreach on all three UJA campuses. The new Director will work with the Archive’s Board of Directors and the in-house UJA team as part of the planning for the new campuses.
Requirements:
• Master of Archival Studies, Museum Studies, History, or Jewish Studies with a demonstrated knowledge of archival professional practices, including acquisition and appraisal.
• Minimum 5-7 years work experience in an established archives, cultural or history centre with experience performing archival functions cataloguing and processing collections
• Expertise with budgets, grant writing, fundraising, strategic planning, exhibition development, curatorial work, and programming
• Fluency with Jewish history and culture, and specific knowledge of Canadian Jewish history
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Experience motivating, directing and supervising staff and volunteers
• Ability to work in a collaborative environment with the ability to manage change and growth.
This is a fulltime, permanent position. Excellent compensation package.
