According to the evidence that Alan Gribben listed in Mark Twain's Library:
A Reconstruction (vol.2, page 592),  Mark Twain read at least parts of "Les
Confessions" and the song "Days of Absence."  Gribben's landmark reference
work about books from Twain's Library is the place to start for many
scholarly endeavors, including the search for Twain's references to
Rousseau.  Depite the brevity of the entry for Rousseau, it is loaded with a
great variety of information pertaining to the topic you seek.
