Faculty of Information Studies, University of Toronto
Job Shadowing Program
Sponsored By:
FIS Alumni Association
FIS Student Council Professional Development Committee
For several years now many of you have responded
enthusiastically to our request for mentors for our
Shadowing Program. This annual event takes FIS
students, at the University of Toronto into libraries,
information centres and archives for a half-day or a
day to observe the life of an Information Professional
at work.
Once again we invite you to participate, to set aside
a few hours to show one or more students the ropes.
You can provide students with valuable insight into
professional practice by: having them observe your
workplace; by explaining how your day is organized; by
outlining your responsibilities; and by generally
giving them a feel for life on the job. Hosts from
the Greater Toronto Area are especially encouraged to
submit a posting.
This is how it works. If you wish to participate you
can either:
a) Complete the form below and email it to Tracey
Palmer at [log in to unmask]; or
b) Complete the form below and mail (see address
below); or
c) Fill out an electronic form on the FIS Alumni
Association’s Job Shadowing page on the FIS website at
http://www.fis.utoronto.ca/people/fisaa/fisaa8.htm.
In early February all submitted information will be
transferred to signup sheets and placed in the FIS
office. Students can then sign up for a site visit
that matches their career interests. It will be the
responsibility of the students to then contact the
host of their choice.
Together, the student and host will arrange the visit
at a mutually convenient time. Hosts from other
cities, for example, may find that their student may
not be free to visit until the summer.
Please note that the last day to submit a form for
participation in the program, is Friday, February 2nd.
This is so that students will have a chance to pick
site locations before their reading week.
If you have any questions about this program, please
