Samuelson wrote about the problems Tarshis encountered in his "Credo of a
Lucky Textbook Author," Journal of Economic Perspectives 11(2), Spring
1997. However, there he does not exactly say that he was fearful in first
publishing his text in light of Tarshis' experience, although he notes
that some of the people that had attacked Tarshis later turned against
him. Rather, Samuelson notes that Tarshis' book was very good, that he
might not have started to work on his own textbook if he would have known
of Tarshis' book earlier, and that Tarshis' textbook did not become a
competitor because of the campaign against Tarshis.

HES: QUERY -- Samuelson question
----------------- HES POSTING -----------------
I recall reading an account by Samuelson that he was very fearful in first
publishing his text in light of the problems that Tarshis encountered.
Does anybody have any information about this subject?
