Steve Kates will be pleased to learn that New Lanark, largely in ruins in the early 1970s, was in fact lovingly restored over the ensuing years and is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. There is a wonderful museum and visitor centre that explains the history and includes a working water wheel and a water turbine that still drives the old cotton looms. See

Anyone coming to the UK HET conference in Edinburgh in September must take a side trip to see it.
