With respect to the discussion of Whig interpretations of the
history of economics: the history of economics is history, not economics,
and historians, primarily intellectual historians have had much to say
about interpretations of history, especially in recent times. For a far
broader and, I think, more penetrating discussion of the subject than we
have undertaken here, I recommend P.H. Hutton, HISTORY AS AN ART OF
MEMORY, University Press of New England, 1993.
