Annual History of Economic Thought Conference

The Autumn 1997 History of Economic Thought Conference will be held in Bristol
(not Bath as previously announced) at Burwalls, a fine Victorian house in a
rather special location on the edge of the Avon Gorge beside Brunel's
suspension
bridge.
The provisional programme includes:
Terence Hutchison, 'Hypothetical deductivism from Nassau Senior to Daniel
Hausman'
Walter Eltis, 'Debt, deficits and default'
Roger Backhouse, Roger Middleton, and Keith Tribe, 'Economics is what
economists do, but what do the numbers tell us?'
Michel de Vroey, 'The Marshallian concept of equilibrium and time'
Richard Arena and Sandye Gloria, 'Menger and Walras on money'
Peter Groenewegen, 'From prominent physician to major economist: some
reflections on Quesnay's switch to economics'
Francisco Louca, 'Nikolai Kondratiev and the academic consensus about
history and statistics'
Andrew Skinner, 'Adam Smith: the French connection'
Craufurd Goodwin, 'Roger Fry: economist'
John Whitaker, 'Henry George and classical economics
As in previous years all sessions will be plenary, with time for full
presentation and discussion. Sessions start at 2 pm on Wednesday 3rd
September, registration 12-2 pm (lunch available if ordered in advance).
The conference ends at lunchtime on Friday 5th September (again, lunch
available if booked).
