The third annual conference of the EUROPEAN SOCIETY FOR THE HISTORY OF
ECONOMIC THOUGHT will be held in Valencia, Spain, 26-28 February 1999. The
Conference will take place at the "Palacio de Pineda" of the International
University Menendez Pelayo (a recently restored eighteenth century small
palace located within walking distance to the city centre). The general
theme of the conference will be "National Traditions in Economic Thought
and the Diffusion of Ideas". The conference will have both a thematic part
and an open part. Sessions may be proposed. Each session is expected to
include three or four papers. There will also be sessions in which Ph.D.
students can present their work and get responses from experts in their
field of research. Scholars who would like to attend and give a paper are
asked to send a proposal and an abstract of not more than 500 words and
full details of the author(s) affiliation(s)(Ph.D. students should provide
an information about their status): address, e-mail, fax, phone) by 31st

A Scientific Committee will screen the proposals and decide which papers
to include in the programme. Notice of the acceptance of the papers will
be sent by 30th September 1998. Authors whose papers have been accepted
are then asked to provide extended summaries of their papers (maximum
3,200 words). The summaries will be included in a booklet distributed to
all participants; the summaries must be sent to the above address no later
than 30th November 1998. Information about board, lodging, fellowships,
and the final programme will be distributed in due course.
