I am pleased to announce that Provost Peter Lange has made it possible for Duke
University, for each of the next three years, to provide up to five grants of up to $500
for young scholars from the US, or overseas, to use the Economists' Papers Project
materials in Duke's Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special Collections Library (website
http://scriptorium.lib.duke.edu/economists)

These grants will be paid directly to one of several convenient local hotels for living
expenses incurred, and will not be paid to the scholar directly.

Grantees for academic year 2003-2004 will be selected by a committee consisting of
Professors Craufurd Goodwin, Neil DeMarchi, and Roy Weintraub.

To apply for one of these grants, please send a letter (or email) setting out the research
objectives, and preferred period of residence in Durham, to E. Roy Weintraub, Economics
Department, Duke University, Durham, North Carolina 27708-0097 (or [log in to unmask]).

The deadline for receipt of those application letters for this first year of awards will
be November 1, 2003.

Roy Weintraub
