The ANB Bio said: "As capstone to his long crusade for freedom of  
expression, Ross served as national chair of the American Civil Liberties  
Union (1940-1950). He died at home in Madison, Wisconsin." 
 
It is of passing interest to note that Ross's time in Madison coincided  
with the exclusion of Milton Friedman from the economics department in  
May/June 1941 on what he and Rose Friedman characterize as anti-Semitic  
grounds.
