But recall that, for Freud, the originator of the cigar quote, when it came
to the subject of human motivations, a cigar was not a cigar in most
instances.  Hardly surprising that someone like Twain, ostensibly living
within at least two separate identities, could suggest, imply or intend two
or more coexisting, conflicting or contradictory motivations underlying a
single act.
