Does anyone have the contact info for the Hartford House to send donations?
My small donation might not do a lot of good, but if everyone in the Forum
would contribute a little and attempt to solicit donations from others, it
might help, especially from those whose employers match their donations.
Alex Trebek (Jeopardy) is a huge Twain fan. Over the last few months, Alex
presented several clues on tape from the Hartford House. Someone from
Hartford should know how to contact him. Would Alex be willing to mention
the Hartford House on the show on the web site? along with an address for
donations?
What about Ken Burns? Ron Powers? recipients of the Mark Twain humor awards?
Garrison Keelor once broadcast his show from the Hartford House. Can we
contact him?
Almost every American writer and/or humorist has been influenced, to some
extent, by Twain. What organizations of writers can we contact?
Can a Forum member compose a persuasive letter soliciting help from some of
these people? (I wish I were good at this, but I'm not.) Post it on the
Forum for us to pass on?
How about the Atlantic Monthly ---or other publications that printed Twain's
work?
A big corporate grant would be great, but if Obama can win with thousands of
small donations, can't we do it, too?
If America can hold a telethon to pay Willie Nelson's back taxes, can't we
figure a way to raise money for a national treasure?
A PBS telethon? Can we get a story on NPR?
While I have your attention, I have been searching for days for Twain's
story about his "experiment" of putting various animals in a cage ---their
learning to get along, then introducing men of various religions, resulting
in their taking their theological differences to a higher authority.
Can anyone send me the exact quotation or direct me to its source?
Thank you,
Carol Peiffer
