*CALL FOR PAPERS: 2024 Quarry Farm Symposium on “Gilded Age Humor”*

The Center for Mark Twain Studies at Elmira College is partnering with *Studies
in American Humor *to host the annual Quarry Farm Symposium during the *Fall
2024 semester, from October 18 to October 19*. The theme for the Symposium
is “Gilded Age Humor.” It will feature a keynote address by Tracy Wuster,
author of *Mark Twain: American Humorist* and long-time executive director
of the American Humor Studies Association.
The annual symposium gathers scholars from various fields each year around
a theme related to Mark Twain studies or the nineteenth century more
broadly and is held at the historic Quarry Farm site in Elmira, NY. *Presenters
may be invited to submit a version of their presentation for publication in
a special of issue of Studies in American Humor, which will be published in
Fall 2025.*
We invite submissions on a wide range of subjects related to humor in or
about the Gilded Age, including:
· Literary humor
· Mark Twain
· Political Cartoons
· Social satire
· Periodical Humor
· Visual Arts
· Contemporary Representations of the Gilded Age
· Gender, Race, Class and Gilded Age Humor
· Nationalism, Transnationalism
Please send *200-word paper abstracts* and *either a CV or biographical
statement* to David Gillota ([log in to unmask]) by February 1st, 2024.
