If this hasn't been done... it should be.  Gilroy's "Black Atlantic" seems
like a perfect fit for the Mississippi.  His discussions of ships seem like
they would easily transfer, and of course the same kind of slave trade is
occuring here as well.  Great idea, I haven't come across anything that does
either.
