Thomas Hart Benton, a native Missourian, also illustrated Tom Sawyer, Huck
Finn, and Life on the Mississippi. I always thought Benton made Tom and
Huck look too old. To my eye, they appeared to be in their late teens, if
not older. He did, however, do a very nice job of conveying the atmosphere
of the river, countryside, and inhabitants.
Benton's Huck Finn and Life on the Mississippi are very easy to find for
sale, but for some reason, Tom Sawyer does not seem to have been reprinted
after the first edition by the Limited Editions Club .... at least that I've
ever been able to find.

You all might have known about this, but I just learned Norman
Rockwell did some illustrations for Huckleberry Finn. In case there
are others among you who missed this, I provide a link with examples.
