Here's an addition to Richard's announcement about the Shoestring West
Theatre Productions one-act plays. The company is also performing tonight,
11 November, at 8 p.m., and tomorrow, 12 November, at 2 p.m. at the
Humanist Theater in Oakland (390 27th Street is the main entrance; the
building is between 27th and 28th streets with entrances on both sides,
but the 411 28th street entrance may be closed).
A very enjoyable and very funny production.

Shoestring West presents
THREE ONE-ACT PLAYS BY MARK TWAIN
2:00 PM - 4:00 PM – SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 2011
OAKLAND MAIN LIBRARY, DOWNTOWN
Celebrating Mark Twain’s
little-known gender-bending feminist fiction, Shoestring West
Theatre Productions brings three of his controversial short stories
to the stage!
On the program will be Twain’s
“1002nd Arabian Night” (c. 1883). Colorful
costumes, Middle Eastern music, and belly dancers bring Twain’s
fanciful tale to life, exploring what happens when a wicked witch
switches the gender of the two babes, so a boy is raised as a girl
and a girl is raised as a boy.
In addition to this tale, Scherezade narrates two other Twain yarns -
“Wapping Alice,”(1898) showing what ensues when a male transvestite traps a
reluctant beau into marriage, and
“How Nancy Jackson Married Kate Wilson,” (1902) a tale probing what
happens after a murderess disguises herself as a man and is forced into
marrying a farmer’s daughter.
Oakland audiences of all ages will be entertained by Twain’s wit and
provocative story-telling!
Performance in the Bradley C. Walters Community Room of the Library.
Location: Main Library, 125 14th St.
OAKLAND, NORTH CALIFORNIA
